PACKING

In the early hours of the morning the grapes are hand-picked in the vineyards and are carefully put into crates. From the vineyard it is sent to the pack house pre-cooler where it gets cooled to room temperature.

As the crates enter the pack house with a conveyor, cutting and trimming are done with careful and special attention to ensure that bunches are trimmed to their full potential.  The grapes are then sorted into different berry trays according to size, color, brix and quality so that the clients specifications are met and also to ensure minimal waste for the grower.  The Grape Company also has Quality Controllers to ensure the best quality.

From sorting, the grapes will either be packed in punnets or loose grapes. When it has to be packed loose, the crates have to be weighed again according to the client’s desired specifications. When it comes to packing punnets, this does not happen as each punnet is weighed and packed individually.
